A Little Bit About Mrs. Liesch (Introductory Post Revisited)

Hello! My name is Fallyn Liesch. I have been teaching for 13 years in Indian Prairie School District 204. Currently, I am a Reading Specialist at Mary Lou Cowlishaw Elementary School. I get to work with students in Kindergarten-Fifth grade on a daily basis. Before leaving the classroom, I was a 2nd grade and 5th grade teacher at Fry Elementary School and Welch Elementary School. I received my Bachelor's of Education (Certification K-9) from Northern Illinois University and my Master's of Education degree from Benedictine University (Reading Specialist K-12). Additionally, I am currently enrolled at the University of St. Francis to obtain my ESL teaching endorsement certification.

My school is fortunate enough to be 1:1 with touch screen Chromebooks in grades 2-5. The students are expected to take their Chromebooks home each night to charge and use to complete homework. Due to the number of laptops and Title One Chromebooks in our building prior to the 1:1 initiative, our kindergarten and 1st grade students are also able to be 1:1 within their school day. To stay current with education technology, I recently completed an educational technology course through the University of St. Francis and learned about a lot of great digital tools to use in my teaching to increase engagement and achievement! I have loved learning and using FlipGrid, Padlet, and Google classroom with my students. This course also highlighted the importance of positive digital citizenship for everyone using technology, the ISTE Standards for educators and students, and the latest trends in educational technology.

A little about me outside of teaching...I have been married for 12 years. We have two energetic boys, who keep us on our toes and our schedules very busy as we run them around to various after school activities and sports games on the weekends. My husband and I have been DIY renovating our house for the last 4 years and, fingers crossed, should be finished by the start of the 2019 school year! We also share our home with a spoiled cat and a painted water turtle. As a family, we love to play board games, be outdoors as much as possible, and read books before bedtime.
